What is the Parent Leaders Program?
This program is designed to provide parents with "hands on" civic, public policy, and capacity development and leadership training. Through workshops, experiential learning and extensive meetings with key government officials and Washington insiders; participants gain full understanding of the internal workings of the United States Government at both the local and national levels. The program provides adults with tools and leadership skills necessary to empower their communities through active and responsible citizenship participation. The program also focuses its efforts in training parents to be more involved in local schools governance, and on community boards.

The Parent Leaders Program is individually customized for each participating
group, and can be provided in both English and Spanish to accommodate everyone. Participants can

Program Schedule
Our Washington training operates in tandem with the congressional term (January through October). Parent Training is normally conducted in early spring (May) and Early Fall (October) This schedule allows the Adult Leaders Program (scheduled from Sunday evening orientation through Wednesday/Thursday afternoon departure). Onsite Training can be conducted in the spring and fall.
Training, Advocacy & Experiential Learning
Delegates spend two days interacting with congressional representatives in House and Senate, congressional staff, and Majority and Minority committees; and training and networking with local and national organizations.
Developing Agendas for Congress
Delegates debate and confront social issues, building consensus on a specific agenda. This agenda is developed into speaking points and used in meetings and presentations to different members of congress.
Seminars and Workshops
Delegates take part in leadership workshops and seminars that include public policy and advocacy, worker education, business development, financial literacy, parent involvement, and other relevant topics of interest to the group.
“Hands On” Meetings and Public Speaking
Group and individual presentations (i.e., presenting speaking points to congressional representatives and other professionals) are key components of the training week and are repeatedly exercised throughout the week.
Group Cost and Accommodations
Cost includes housing, tuition and supplies, tour, transfers, and meals.
*(Air Travel or Transportation costs to Washington, DC are not included, but can be arranged by BCLI at cost.
