About Us

Bert Corona

Thank you for visiting the Bert Corona Leadership Institute (BCLI), home of experiential learning programs in civics, global affairs, and work and life skills development.

"The paths of Cesar Chavez and Bert Corona have crossed many times. They worked together to advance the cause of social justice for the disenfranchised. Our purpose is to train new generations of grassroots leaders and active citizens to embrace this commitment."
— E. Francisco Lopez, MPA, JD. President and CEO

Mission

BCLI's mission is to develop and implement evidence based solutions in civic, education, and work skills among youth from farm worker, and developing communities worldwide.

Who Do We Serve?

For the past 10 years, BCLI has been serving youth and adults from farm worker and developing communities by providing training opportunities that focus on civic participation, leadership, work skills development, and strengthening education.

Our Method: Experience in Democracy Leadership Program - 10 years and counting…

Our programs are customized, “hands on” and bilingual (English and Spanish). BCLI uses the resources and power base of Washington, DC by working directly with the US Congress, agencies, businesses, and labor organizations. Unlike other programs, our program utilizes modules designed to teach important skills and tools on Leadership, Power and Politics, and Developing and Communicating an Agenda. We also use primers; Understanding How Government Works For You; and The Action Guide before and at the end of the program. These tools are combined with “hands on” activity to produce a more active citizenry, and the development of a community action plan.

Program graduates are actively involved in changing their communities locally, and participating in local and national politics. Graduates leave with a greater understanding of how to be a more active part of the future leadership within their communities. BCLI has successfully served over 6,000 students, teachers, and parents since our charter in 2001. Our goal is to bring more migrants, immigrants, and disenfranchised communities into the mainstream of society.

BCLI is an independent, nonpartisan, 501 C-3 organization, with an independent board of directors. Our programs, staff, board and advisors all have a long commitment and history working with developing communities.

We invite you to become a part of this exciting growing organization by becoming a partner or donor.
