About the Institute
Bert CoronaThank you for visiting the Experience in Democracy Program and the Bert Corona Leadership Institute's (BCLI) web site.

"The paths of Cesar Chavez and Bert Corona have crossed many times. They worked together to advance the cause of social justice for the disenfranchised. Our purpose is to train new generations of leaders and educated consumers to embrace this commitment."
— E. Francisco Lopez, MPA, JD.
President and CEO

Mission
The Bert Corona Leadership Institute promotes civic participation, education, and economic advancement among youth from farm-worker and developing communities.

Who Do We Serve?
BCLI serves youth living in immigrant and farmworker communities by providing training programs with an emphasis on civic participation, citizenship, economic development, and strengthening education.

Customized Bilingual "Hands On" Training Programs
BCLI uses the power base of Washington, DC by working directly with the US Congress, US Agencies, businesses, and labor organizations to provide "hands on" learning for the Experience in Democracy Programs. Programs can be conducted in English and Spanish, as well as other languages with advance planning.

Creating Leadership: Participation, Empowerment, and Leadership
BCLI embraces the spirit and energy of its visionary, Bert Corona, by continuing to provide "hands-on" training programs aimed at bringing developing youth and adult populations into the American political mainstream. As such, the Institute has developed the motto of "Participation, Empowerment, and Leadership.

Graduates are actively involved in changing their communities by becoming involved in programs, and participating in local and national politics. Graduates also continue to go on to college and universities with a greater understanding of how they can be an active part of future leadership within their communities.

BCLI is an independent, nonpartisan, 501 C-3 organization, with an independent Board of Directors. BCLI's programs, staff, board and advisors all have a long history of working with developing communities.

We invite you to become a part of this exciting growing organization by becoming a partner and donor.
